The fourth-highest ski area in North America (pipped for the title of Highest in North America by Snowmass and then knocked down to third by Loveland, which installed the world's highest chairlift, a quad and in the process took the 'Highest lift in the US title from Snowmass, in 1998; and then agaijn by Breckenridge which built the world's highest chair in 2005).
It is possible to hike up to nearly 4000 metres to ski down and increase the vertical. 'A Basin' came under new-ownership after splitting back from 'Keystone Control' for the '97-'98 season. The area's fantastic height means skiing is possible in to July and on occasions, even August. Good skiing for all abilities and very reasonably priced passes.
